WELCOME AND BUONGIORNO AT SONNBÜHEL “THE WORLD BELONGS TO THOSE WHO ENJOY IT”

Legends have always been born in the tranquil but world-famous Kitzbühel: Even the Gamsstadt itself with its Hahnenkamm, which produces new, glorious ski heroes every year, has a legendary reputation. In addition to well-known artists such as Alfons Walde, it was above all the well-known ski racers who made a significant contribution to the Kitzbühel phenomenon: Toni Sailer, Ernst Hinterseer, Anderl Molterer. The ride over the notorious Streif, which is considered the most difficult downhill route in the world, raised them to the status of legends.

Embedded in this environment, one ski hut in particular took the lead: Sonnbühel. Sonnbühel has not only been considered THE ski hut in the Kitzbühel Alps for a long time, but also probably the oldest in the whole world.

Dr. Julius Bueb

Sonnbühel was founded between 1924 and 1926 by the Berlin industrialist Dr. Julius Bueb built as a private luxury residence. It served the Bueb family and friends as a place to relax in the midst of nature.

The members of the elite Berlin golf club were also able to enjoy the edifying view and the fantastic location, because at that time Sonnbühel was used as their clubhouse. Between 1945 and 1955, Sonnbühel was under French occupation and was then run as a mountain inn by Ella Schnetger, Julius Bueb’s daughter.

From 1989 the Tomschy family managed the gem on the Hahnenkamm.

A new era at gourmet level began in 2016 with the takeover of the legendary ski hut by the South Tyrolean Ivan Marzola. Coming from a family of successful restaurateurs, Marzola wanted to reinvent Alpine gastronomy and brought the best of Bella Italia to the mountain.

What makes the Berggasthof Sonnbühel so unique

The Sonnbühel’s good reputation made it known to numerous top-class celebrities from home and abroad. So many wonderful people chose it as their favorite place in the Kitzbühel Alps – a special place of power with an extraordinary ambience, where warm hospitality, soothing relaxation and enjoyment are capitalized.

Not only nature lovers have always been pampered with many hours of sunshine and the wonderful view on the Sonnbühel terrace – the terrace with its inviting deck chairs and the snow bar are considered a hotspot for people from all over the world and party-goers get their money’s worth with the exuberant hut fun. Sonnbühel has earned its well-deserved good reputation over the decades, and it is not for nothing that celebrity chef Eckart Witzigmann counted the kitchen “among the best over 1,000 meters”.

When Dr. Christian Harisch and Ivan Marzola got to know and decided to revolutionize alpine gastronomy, a new era was heralded on the Sonnbühel.
In harmony with the precious tradition, the new gastronomy concept seduces with the best from the mountains and the sea, unconditional hospitality, excellent service in an exclusive ambience.
The extraordinary concept also includes varied themed evenings that are arranged with great attention to detail and where guests are pampered with six-course menus.

Sonnbühel is considered the pinnacle of enjoyment: the special location and exquisite culinary delights transform food from a simple basic need into a true experience with all the senses.

This is a quote from the Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi. Our Berggasthof Sonnbühel defines pleasure at the highest level. In a place that is probably the most beautiful on the Hahnenkamm, we serve specialties of the mountains, the sea and from my homeland – Bella Italia.

I hope you forget the time while enjoying the food and experience the fascination of the Hahnenkamm, which brought me back to Kitzbühel as a former ski racer. You are sitting on the probably oldest ski lodge in the world in the legendary sports city of the Alps and be enchanted by Italian gourmet cuisine. I can only agree with the famous quote and wish you a winter with plenty of sun and enjoyment on the Sonnbühel.
